This collection plays with the shapes of the Nikté flower, a kind of water lily named like this in honour of the protagonist of an ancient Mayan legend.

"A long time ago lived in Nan Chan Kaan a Myan prince forced to marry, by his father, a princess from a far country. But he was in love with the beautiful Nikté, the daughter of the keeper of a sacred cave, where every night they met.

The priest discovered them and planned to eliminate Nikté, but the nanny of the prince sensed the evil intentions of the minister and told it to the prince. The prince sent the nanny to bring her beloved to get married in secret. But the priest followed and killed the nanny.

The prince, seeing that the nanny did not return, went looking for Nikté, who was waiting near the cave. But hidden in the dark the priest threw a poisoned arrow to the heart of the lady, throwing her into the cavern, where the body of Nikté sank rapidly. The prince, unable to contain his sadness cried bitterly and begged the gods to take him with her.

Seeing his sadness, the Lord of Waters transformed Nikté into a beautiful lily, and the Lord of the Birds transformed the prince into a red bird. Since then, at sunrise, descends the red bird to the lake to sing to his beloved Nikté ."
